Tottenham Hotspur Target Thomas Frank to Replace Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou

The mystery surrounding the identity of Tottenham Hotspur's new skipper is slowly being solved. Following the shocking dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, ESPN revealed that the North London club is increasingly optimistic about appointing Thomas Frank as their head coach.

Tottenham are reportedly set to step up negotiations with Brentford regarding compensation for the 51-year-old. Frank himself is believed to be very enthusiastic about moving to London and is said to want to bring some of his trusted staff with him.

"Tottenham Hotspur are increasingly hopeful of appointing Thomas Frank as their new head coach," reports ESPN. Spurs are expected to step up discussions with Brentford over a compensation package for Frank, who is willing to move to London and wants to bring some members of his backroom staff with him.

The same report claims that there is a release clause in Frank's Brentford contract believed to exceed £10 million. Talks will focus on whether Tottenham are willing to meet this figure in full or reach a compromise during negotiations. However, there is now optimism in the Spurs camp that Frank will soon succeed Postecoglou.

Postecoglou's sacking last week came as a shock, especially since he had led Spurs to victory in the Europa League just 16 days earlier. The 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao ended Tottenham's 17-year wait for a major trophy.

However, despite their success in Europe, Tottenham's performance in the Premier League this season has actually been poor. They recorded 22 defeats — a poor record for a team not to be relegated — and finished 17th in the final standings.
