Details: As reported by The Mirror, 16-year-old Éder Smic Valencia, a player from Alemana Popayán Academy, died in a car accident shortly before signing his first professional contract with the New York Red Bulls.
The Alemana Popayán Academy is well-known for nurturing talents who often go on to have successful careers. Éder Smic Valencia was one such talent, recently noticed by scouts from New York Red Bulls. Unfortunately, he never had the chance to make that move.
Colombian authorities are looking into the circumstances of the accident, while the player’s club has confirmed the news and extended their condolences to his family.
