Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel does not think Ruben Amorim has improved his team at all and feels he has to change his system to get results.
The Red Devils were beaten 3-0 at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, with Phil Foden opening the scoring and Erling Haaland netting twice.
United did create chances, but they were clearly levels below their opponents, who ran out comfortable winners on an emotional day at the Etihad after iconic City fan Ricky Hatton’s death.
It was an encouraging summer in the transfer market for Manchester United as they brought in the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
However, the season has started very disappointingly, with just four points from their opening four Premier League games and their only victory being a last minute winner at home to Burnley.

Amorim’s side have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two outfit Grimsby Town on an embarrassing night for the club.
There have been some bright spells from Manchester United and signs of life for Amorim’s project, but Schmeichel is not convinced at all.
The iconic goalkeeper cannot see improvement under the Portuguese boss and says it is time to abandon his preferred 3-4-3 formation.
Schmeichel unimpressed
‘Looking at the Man United team I can’t help but feel it’s moved nowhere,’ said Schmeichel. ‘It’s just the same. Manchester City didn’t need to play exceptionally well.’
He added: ‘I think he needs to consider changing things a little bit. Change the system so you get players playing what they know, what they’ve been brought up to play. Go four at the back.’
Another Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, suggests Amorim might be running out of time as he continues to struggle to make an impact as manager.
Keane questions Amorim’s future
‘We were told the new manager needs a pre-season and his own players,’ Keane said on Sky Sports. ‘We keep making excuses but at some stage we’ve got to see the signs.
‘People say you’ve got to give the manager time and of course, but we saw [Arne] Slot going into Liverpool last year, and alright Liverpool had a better team than United, but he ends up winning the league.
‘You see [Thomas] Frank going into Spurs and are we seeing signs of Spurs improving? Yeah.
‘How long do you keep waiting when this team are getting a point a game?’
The defeat left Amorim’s Premier League record at eight wins, seven draws and 16 losses from his 31 outings.
The Irishman added: ‘United just looked like an average team, a really average team. Take nothing away from City, but I bet City’s attacking players couldn’t believe how easy it was.’
Another iconic figure at Old Trafford, Gary Neville, suggested Amorim has a matter of weeks to improve things or he will be in danger of losing his job.

‘It was a nothing from United,’ said Neville on Sky Sports. ‘They are 14th in the league only four games in and we all said that they can’t be getting to October where they are 14th or 15th in the league or the manager will be in trouble.
‘There are a few games to go but they have to start winning quickly.’
The Red Devils are back in action at home on Saturday evening at home to Chelsea.
Their final match before Neville’s October deadline is away at Brentford on September 27.
