Arne Slot blasted one of his Liverpool stars for being of ‘no use’ after making the wrong decision in the lead-up to Crystal Palace’s dramatic winner.
In a meeting between the Premier League’s only remaining unbeaten sides on Saturday afternoon, Palace led for 87 minutes at Selhurst Park until Federico Chiesda’s equaliser appeared to rescue a point for the champions.
But there was late drama in south east London with Eddie Nketiah slotting past Alisson with the last kick of the game seven minutes into injury time to seal all three points.
Marc Guehi’s flick-on found its way to Nketiah who was unmarked at the far post, able to take the ball down on his chest before finding the back of the net.
Assessing how Palace managed to breach the Liverpool defence late on, Slot explained how ‘one of our players’ left his defensive post to be in position for a counter attack – a fruitless task with the game almost up.

While he did not name the player, Slot’s comments appeared to be aimed at Jeremie Frimpong who stepped up away from Nketiah, anticipating the ball to fall his way while leaving the former Arsenal striker free.
‘We can only blame ourselves. Defending the way we did,’ Slot said.

‘One of our players decided to run out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up.
‘It was only about defending. Maybe we were too offensively minded. One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.’

Slot continued: There was only one team that deserved to win and that was Palace.
‘A disappointing first half and disappointing end of the game. Again, once again, credit to Palace. It’s not the first time we lose against them, It tells you how difficult it is for us.
‘They deserved to be up two or three goals in the first half. We were lucky that Alisson helped us.’
Palace’s victory saw them move up to second place just three points behind Liverpool in the table.
