London Stadium witnessed a tale of two strikers as Jean-Philippe Mateta's double condemned West Ham to a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.
In a thrilling London derby, it was the Eagles who flew highest, with Mateta proving the difference maker. The Frenchman's brace not only secured all three points for the visitors but also extended their unbeaten run to five games.
The first half was a cagey affair with few clear-cut chances. However, the game sprung to life after the break. Just three minutes into the second half, Mateta latched onto a superb through ball from Eberechi Eze before firing a low shot past Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham's woes were compounded when Konstantinos Mavropanos received his marching orders for a second yellow card in the 80th minute.
With the Hammers down to ten men, Palace capitalized. Eddie Nketiah, who had come on as a substitute, was brought down by Fabianski inside the box, and Mateta made no mistake from the spot, sealing the victory in the 89th minute.
This win sees Crystal Palace leapfrog West Ham in the Premier League table, moving up to 12th place with 27 points. Meanwhile, the Hammers sit just behind them in 14th.
