Liverpool player Mohamed Salah has reportedly not been included in the Liverpool squad for the sixth match of the 2025/2026 Champions League against Inter Milan at the San Siro, Wednesday (10/12) at 01.30 IST.
Journalist David Ornstein wrote in The Athletic that Salah would not be included in this European competition match following the complaints he made publicly after Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday IST.
"Mohamed Salah is not expected to be included in Liverpool's squad for Tuesday's Champions League trip to Inter Milan, although a final decision has not yet been made," Ornstein wrote in The Athletic on Monday.
Ornstein said the decision was taken by the club's sporting director Richard Hughes in conjunction with the board, signaling Liverpool's continued support for Slot to continue leading the team despite the poor results since the end of September.
Liverpool have played 15 matches in all competitions since the end of September, with only four wins, while the rest have ended in nine defeats and two draws.
Meanwhile, in his post-Leeds interview, Salah revealed that his relationship with Slot "suddenly we had no relationship whatsoever", adding that there was "someone" who wanted to get rid of him at the club.
Salah expressed his frustration after being benched for three consecutive Premier League matches. Before missing the game against Leeds, the Egyptian star also warmed the bench against West Ham United and only came on in the second half against Sunderland.
"This decision will be taken by sporting director Richard Hughes together with the club's owners and will underline their support for head coach Arne Slot," Ornstein wrote.
Despite being benched against Inter, Liverpool view this incident as not a disciplinary action against Salah for what he revealed publicly and will not affect the 33-year-old's chances of featuring in the next match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield this weekend.
Liverpool also remain fully committed to Salah's contract, which runs until 2027, despite his interview potentially leading to an early departure from Anfield in January.
"Liverpool do not consider the Egypt international's dismissal against Inter to be disciplinary action, and the move is seen as an isolated incident, not something that will affect Salah's chances of returning to action going forward — including for Saturday's Premier League match at home to Brighton & Hove Albion," Ornstein wrote.
"Liverpool have confirmed that they remain fully committed to Salah and his contract, which runs until 2027, and consider the current situation to be temporary and rectified," he said.
"They are not said to be planning for the striker's departure, nor are they making any plans to use the January transfer window to find a replacement," he said.
Regarding the contract issue, Salah also expressed the same commitment in an interview, that he had no regrets at all about signing a new contract with the Reds, who he had previously defended for eight years.
"Imagine how bad it was for me to have to answer that question, honestly. It hurt, even the question hurt. This club, signing for this club, I will never regret it," Salah said.
Salah will leave Liverpool on December 15th to join the Egyptian national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This means that Salah's last match before being sidelined for the next few matches will be against Brighton.
